Thank You to Dr. Hariyati Shahrima Abdul Majid for this great program

Assalamualaikum w.b.t..

Now, i would like to share some of the beneficial inputs that i have already gained from joining this program entitled "Breast Cancer: caring for you and your loved one". This program was done as a way of increasing the awareness among people about the breast cancer. This program was opened to both gender as each and everyone no matter male or female had the probability to be affected with breast cancer throughout their lifetime.

For the first slot, Mrs. Musyidah Zakiah presented to the audience about the importance of choosing the right foods with the right amount of calories for the body. According to her, the adequate calories needed for each person are different in gender. For male, they have to get 1800 to 2200 kcal per day whereas, as for female, the adequate calories would be 1500 to 1800 kcal per day.

In addition to that, she also mentioned about the  need for the physical activity that can ensure the healthy life growth. Physical is needed at least 150 minutes of the moderate intensity or 75 minutes of rigorous activity each week, preferable spread throughout the week. She also advised on limiting the sedentary activity like sitting, lying down or watching tv or in another word, we have to limit ourselves from the passive lifestyles.

After that, the audiences have been showed with the demonstration on how to make a medical self treatment as a way to check for any lumps or anything related to the breast cancer. This is one of the important aspects that people need to be exposed as not all people know on how to do that kind of self check if there is no one to guide. During that session, the audiences managed to try a self check on the silicon breast prepared by one of the staff from BCWA.

Apart from that, the staff also mentioned about the percentages to have a breast throughout the lifetime based on race. It was stated that, 1 in every 28 Malay, 1 in every 16 Chinese and 1 in every 17 Indian are at risk of getting a breast cancer throughout their lifetime. The audiences also have been introduced with the term "Mammogram". It was an X-Ray photograph of the breasts. This test was applicable for the people at the age of 40 and above and it has to be done annually or once in a year.

Last of all, the audiences also got the opportunity to lend an ears to the experience from one of the survivors of the breast cancer and she is also one of the lecturers of IIUM. Everything that she said quite opened the audiences eyes about the important of doing an early medical check-up on breast cancer. She also mentioned that " The strongest survival is from the strongest will" and throughout her experienced been diagnosed with the breast cancer, it was not an easy task to control an emotion after a chemotherapy and Alhamdulillah, she managed to settle everything with the help from supportive family members and friends whom always being there during her difficult times. She also talked about the emotionally psychosocial support which for her, is needed during that phases.

Alhamdulillah, Thanks to Allah for giving me this opportunity to attend this program :)
